13 Bad Luck Street

The February reunion of the Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Club Alba took place on the 13th. Fortunately it was not on a Friday. Unfortunately, we summoned the number 13 – which some of us considered to be good, others bad, while the rest didn’t give a damn. Only few of us commented on the luck or the bad luck brought by the number 13. The majority felt it was just a self-inducted idea, for we are not studying the other numbers in order to see if they bring bad luck or not. As long as we only focus on this one, we will see what we want to see, an entirely objective issue.

We then moved to pythagorean and tantric numerology (the latest stripped off its practical part, unfortunately) and to more practical stuff like the use of numbers in developing science. We even talked about the possibility of using them to find a way to communicate with an alien species we may encounter.

We also tryed to figure out if there’s an objective reality or just countless subjective ones, we talked about the countless gods and finished by listening to some nice guitar songs. Three, to be more precise, “for three shall be the number, and the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.” 🙂

We counted ourselves several times, moving from one side of the room to the other, till we succedeed having 13 of us in one place. After all, this is how a superstition is made up, isn’t it? 😉
